[User Picture]11:17 pm - Royal Oil...

Just rediscovered an old CD in my small little collection...

And in the process discovered that Linux doesn't appear to support something Windows does. Or at least I can't find a way to enable this minor but very important feature. Specifically... digital audio playback of CD's without using some kind of stupid 'link cable' between the drive and the sound card. So I have to rip a CD to even play it on my computer under Linux, oddly.

But listening to the album has proved worth the trouble of ripping and encoding the tracks. Very worth it, actually. For anyone that's heard an album by the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, you'll likely know why I love so much of this album... it's just so damn positive compared to so much of the music they want to play on the airwaves now.

But it's not 'poppy' happy, it's down-to-earth, while still being remarkably upbeat in it's outlook. Even the songs about very serious topics show the lesser-tread road, wondering about who's the real victim sometimes, and what are the real causes sometimes...

He didn't hit me for a home
Or hit me up `cause he was cold
He was addicted to drugs
And I could see that in his eyes
What about me?
Well I was only rolled.
He seem to hate what he was doing.
He sure knew how to get it done.
Possessed by an addition,
I don't have to comprehend.
What about me?
Well he whipped me with a gun.
He didn't rob me for food. It wasn't hunger, but a jonze.
He needed a fix. Someone will fix my broken bones.
And I'll feel better in the morning. The pain will fade as time goes by.
What was taken, I won't miss or I'll replace. Nevermind me... I'm all right.
