[User Picture]12:01 am - Well... FireFox is up and running VERY nicely now...
Freshly built FireFox from CVS, and I'm doing something supposedly illegal. My copies are built with the native 'firefox' artwork, which is done with a post-built script I run that involves copying 5 files, replacing two files.

On a side-note, I'm 'debuilding' part of my version of the browser, and investigating how cross-platform the actual browser itself is, to hopefully start making multi-platform Win32/Linux/OSX builds with the same options, and a pre-set group of useful extensions pre-loaded into the browser.

Why? Well, firstly because I'm curious if it's feasable. Have multiple executables in one folder, but one set of configuration/core setup files, with a built-in profile folder on some other media. I.E. A combination credit-card CD-R and USB flash-drive, with the CD-R auto-booting on Win32 and OSX, and including an all-purpose shell script for Linux, that will auto-seek for the USB flash-drive, and if that fails loading a read-only profile from the same CD-R/CD-RW.

A browser you carry on your keychain or in your wallet, basically. I'd put everything on the USB drive, but none of those are auto-booting for numerous reasons. =-.-= And that would be immenantly useful to myself and many others, though many seem to be working towards the USB-drive or CD-only solution I seem to be the only one that's thought of combining the two. I'd guess this is because nobody thinks of carrying two pieces to keep your browser on, a primary browser kept on something read-only, and the 'profile' kept on a readilly modifyable device.

And the second reason for doing all this investigating and benchmarking and compiling to figure things out? If I turn up anything useful, to hand back this information back to the folks out there in proverbial 'TV Land' as a kind of one-stop-shop for augmenting FireFox, instead of having to read about a dozen extensions and tracking them all seperately and dealing with bugs for each of them. Basically... point someone to FireFox to download, then point them at my project to get a large-sized 'mega upgrade' for it.

Anyways, I'm off to get dressed and finish getting cleaned up for my first driving lesson in about 45 minutes. Going to relax and listen to some music until it's time. =^.^=4 commentsLeave a comment
