As I'm sure everyone has heard by now, the oldest space shuttle has quite literally come to pieces on re-entry...

I do not mourn those brave souls that were aboard... what I truly mourn is the impending death knell this rings for our already-battered space program, wondering if the administration will use this as a reason to withdraw what little remaining support they had for NASA, and the ISS as well... Between this disaster, Russia's cancellation of their space program, and the budget over-runs... our last great hope towards that magic of belief... towards space... seems to be melting away...

And that, losing out imagination... our belief in the wonderous and special, is the most painful thing I can think of. Have we truly lost our amazement of the fantastic? Blunted and smothered under a constant barrage of disasters and high-production movies?

I hope not, but I fear so at the same time... Godspeed, all astronauts, cosmonauts, and everyone else living, dead, or yet to be with the imagination and belief to work towards that final frontier surrounding our meager planet...1 commentLeave a comment
