Just days/weeks after offering Ubuntu Linux pre-installed on their desktops and notebooks, Dell has now pulled even the option of buying improved warranty coverage.
Oddly, if you buy an XP/Vista computer, and re-format part of it to have Linux or even BSD or some other weird operating system on it, the extended warranty coverage will still apply. But if you choose not to buy XP/Vista with the computer, you are suddenly ineligible for the coverage?
I'd like to get this story pushed far and wide, and anyone that doesn't mind please register an IdeaStorm account and click the 'Promote' button on that linked entry. I also submitted the story to /. as well, it should be visible on the firehose.Edit: Problem solved. They're claiming it was a glitch in their ordering-system server caused them to remove the options. I'm guessing they had to restore something frmo a backup, and it didn't have the warranty options linked correctly, and nobody noticed. So, yeah, huzzah! My slashdot article was pointed to! =^.^=Leave a comment
