09:01 pm - Current parts list for the car...
...new rims, $210 for six. Yes, six. Plain, black, surprisingly light-weight, steel rims.
New tires, $40-$50/each for six of them instead of the $60-$70/each they cost right now, and they'll be equivilant tires.
Yes, I'm engineering things sideways to my final goal again. I'll be studding two of said tires, and keeping them as dual-purpose 'spare tires' and 'snow chains' rolled into one during winter months, and by the time summer comes around I'll buy another two rims (for eight total) and get non-studded tires on those when I get my wheels rotated just before studded tires become illegal for six months to use in California. (Can use them surprisingly freely during Winter months, but not during Summer months, for understandable reasons of damage to the road.)
The CostCo tire guys have officially told me I have the absolutely wierdest car, and when I told them some of what I plan, they actually asked me why I planned to keep buying tires from them instead of from a 'custom' shop. And when I explained that, I think I honestly made their day to know that someone thought so highly of their service and customer service to pick them over the hundreds of alternatives out there. Though they thought my 'ignition' was so wierd they all took time to come over and stare. *laughs* The wonders of needing a key to get into the car, but not to start or drive it around. Just wait until they no longer need a key to get into the car. =^.^=
But yeah, I'm going to actually have the wonderful option of leaving a flat at CostCo to get repaired, and still have a spare tire while they fix that one, so I'll have zero waiting at all without having my car. Which just rawks on toast. =^.^=0 comments
